I’ve officially found my favorite coffee shop in NYC! You step in and feel like you’re not in NYC anymore…so it’s very NYC!

Daily Prompt: Sleeve

Oh boy…I know I’m a bit late to the page today, but what can I say? I had to work! Now, on to the story brought on by today’s prompt. What in the world could there be to say about the word sleeve? It’s…not exactly that inspiring…so when I was thinking about it this morning I tried to envision all of the different things that sleeve could mean. There’s shirt sleeves, cd sleeves…tattoo sleeves…TATTOO SLEEVES! YES! That was the idea! Then that led me to this…my boyfriend loves his tattoos (they’re really meaningful and awesome…for the most part)…and that reminded me of the time that I spent with him this weekend. While at an event on Sunday where we were serving coffee, tea, cookies, etc., an elder gentleman was complaining that the coffee was way too hot (for the record, it was at a very nice temperature and there were no other complaints) and that the organization should focus more on getting some…sleeves…SLEEVES! YES! THAT’S WHAT I SHOULD WRITE ABOUT! COFFEE! So then BAM! Next thing I know, I’m enjoying a nice meal at the cutest restaurant in my neighborhood, sipping a latte (and also realizing how maybe I’m not that into lattes and I should get something else next time), drinking o.j., and eating the most amazing pancakes with berries and rum infused whipped cream I have ever had in my life. It’s seriously making me hungry right now. I had a wonderful lunch, and I realized that…I don’t need to write about the word sleeve, but to share my fun story from today. I mean, who doesn’t want to spend a few moments enjoying the sunshine while on a bar stool, drinking coffee and eating awesome food? I know I loved it, and I hope you’ve had a great day too!

Skinny Bang Bang Shrimp

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get so busy running here and there in this city and by the time I get home I am sometimes pooped! At that time elaborate meals (although very fun and creative) sound like a bit much to cook…so I like to turn to meal items that are fast and super tasty at the same time. I love seafood and I like how much protein is available in a lot of seafood items. I came across a scrumptious recipe called Skinny Bang Bang Shrimp, and let me tell you that it has become a favorite. It’s just tangy enough to have some bite, and sweet enough to leave you wanting more. Plus…it takes roughly 30 minutes to make…I was flabbergasted when I found out I could do this! You can do just the bang bang shrimp or it could be nice to combine it with rice and vegetables as well. It’s your choice! Take a look below for the recipe and directions and don’t forget…you can get all of the necessary ingredients (there’s only a few and they can be decently cheap) online. Just click on the links to each item to go directly to the page and order them. Happy cooking!

Ingredients

1. 1 lb shrimp //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=gwynethjohans-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B0014CSG5Y&asins=B0014CSG5Y&linkId=SL4MKREZZVI75PKA&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true

2. 3 Tbs plain greek yogurt //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=gwynethjohans-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B00RASEHZ4&asins=B00RASEHZ4&linkId=R4S5FZLYLWSNPEFM&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true

3. 3 Tbs green onions //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=gwynethjohans-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B007C7IGTQ&asins=B007C7IGTQ&linkId=NB5ZJPRM6NFUPJJT&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true

4. 1 ½ Tbs sweet chili sauce //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=gwynethjohans-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B00016UX0K&asins=B00016UX0K&linkId=JWH6SRQKFD5NN3DG&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true

5. 3/8 Tbs Sriracha //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=gwynethjohans-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B0014CSG5Y&asins=B0014CSG5Y&linkId=SL4MKREZZVI75PKA&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true

Directions:

1. Combine the sweet chili sauce, onions, sriracha and yogurt and be sure that you mix them together well.
2. For raw shrimp: make sure to grill the shrimp on each side for about 5-8 minutes. They should be cooked all the way through.
3. If the shrimp are already made: bake the shrimp at 350 for 5-10 minutes or so.
4. Mix the shrimp and the sauce together. Personally I like to toss and mix the items together vs. brushing the sauce on, but either way it will work.
5. Finally…eat the tasty dish! And have fun. 🙂

Fun, Quality Foods! :)

I never have liked going to the grocery store even though I love to be creative with food. Cooking and baking are very fun! It’s the buying that isn’t (I mean, who likes to see their money being spent). I can see the nods of agreement now. That being said…I LOVE Trader Joes. It’s definitely one of my favorite stores because they have decent prices and healthy items…but it’s incredibly stressful shopping there sometimes simply because of how long the lines are and how crowded the store is (although I don’t blame all the guests for shopping there…the place is amazing). They have some of my favorite items in the store. Goats milk brie, yes please! Challah…of course! They even have nuggets that I had never heard of before, like Speculoos Cookies and Creme Cookie Butter (<a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=aps&keywords=cookies%20and%20creme%20cookie%20butter&linkCode=ur2&tag=gwynethjohans-20&linkId=4PRU54NBND4F57NU”>cookies and creme cookie butter</a><img src=”https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=gwynethjohans-20&l=ur2&o=1&#8243; width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ alt=”” style=”border:none !important; margin:0px !important;” />

It’s definitely a favorite of the boyfriend’s and always makes him happy! There are also several different flavors to choose from! If you don’t want to head down to the store…there’s an easy way to send treats from Trader Joes to those you love or to order for yourself!

I’ve included a direct link for you to the Trader Joes page on amazon.com. Just click the picture below. Have fun checking through the pages of fun stuff they offer online!

Happy searching! 🙂
