Kindness is Contagious

I’ve been inspired lately to write about something that I feel can sometimes be taken for granted. I don’t really know what to say about it so far, so here goes. This is my brain drain about kindness. Kindness is contagious.

Have you ever noticed on the train how someone asking for money often goes ignored? Then, out of the many, one person donates…and it’s a ripple effect. People notice what is happening. Something in them encourages them to give what little they can. Automatically the heaviness on the train lightens just a little bit. A few smiles and kind words are exchanged. We are all reminded of the fact that others, too, are sometimes kind, in a world where it feels that not many are. For a brief second someones day has been made better, and that candle has been re-kindled inside them. The hearts of all involved have been pushed open just a little bit and warmth has been let in. It’s contagious; the best kind of contagious.

I’m a lover of inspirational quotes, so naturally I was looking up the perfect quote to share in this piece about kindness. There were way too many perfect quotes for me to share in one article; too much good material available, ironically! One of my favorite ideas, though, is that kindness begets kindness by using the law of attraction. In a nutshell, what you feel and put out into the world becomes your reality. I have personally known this to be true in my own life.  So, by being truly kind to the core you are not only improving the lives of others, but you are attracting kindness to you. Even when kindness is not reciprocated you can rest easy knowing that the universe has your back, and feel good about what you have done. So, you may ask, what inspired me to write about this?

I won’t go too far into detail about the reasons behind why I was feeling stressed and low, but I will tell you about the person who showed unconditional kindness. It all happened in a coffee shop, of all places, in midtown NYC. It was a colder day and I went to Princi (which is fabulous, by the way) for a hot chocolate. Upon reaching the register, the barista, Nefertari, could tell that I could use a little boost and she treated me with such care and kindness that it truly warmed my heart. She went above and beyond with amazing customer service, a true to the core smile, and I could tell that her heart is very kind. She didn’t ask questions, she just knew and exuded such a warm, understanding energy that I couldn’t help but smile. I left that day feeling a little bit lighter. I was on the receiving end of a truly kind act, and I haven’t forgotten that. Everyone should have a Nefertari in their lives. I told her I would be writing a shout-out to her on my blog, and I hope to help pay it forward. If you have the chance, stop by, grab a hot chocolate, and enjoy the awesome atmosphere and warmth (literally, too) of Princi on an otherwise cold day. It could be exactly what you needed. Thank you, again, Nefertari, for reminding me that there are truly kind people out there. I hope it comes back to you tenfold!

Let’s Talk About…Finances and the Different Internet Options Available…

Hello everyone! It’s that time of year again, where we are all recovering from the holiday season energy-wise and financially as well. I hope that everyone had a wonderful time celebrating their respective holidays and traditions, as did I! Now for the nitty gritty: what are you going to do to make back the money you spent on the holidays…that can be quite daunting!

Personally, I have several options in mind, 3 of which I am actively engaged in. I’ve told you about Prosper and how you can be your own bank, but what if you don’t have the money to put up to start an account? Well, luckily enough, the online world is buzzing with opportunities to make money in ways many people never dreamed of, whether it’s a few bucks or an entire income.

Option #1: Put that iPhone to good use (other than beating all of the levels of gummy drop, that is, lol). Many folks are making a side income by becoming couriers. At this point delivery services like Instacart, Postmates, Seamless, etc., are so popular and in such high demand that you can literally apply right from your phone, and sign up in minutes. I decided to try this and I signed up with Postmates just to make a few dollars on the side. I’ve only done a few deliveries so far (I usually do one or two after work a couple of times per week), and that has helped solve the post gift buying blues by adding to my bottom line little by little, without much extra effort. It won’t buy me a shiny, new apartment, but it’s helping with the occasional bill, and I certainly appreciate that! Depending on the order size, I’ve averaged about $7-12 dollars per order, and you can do multiple orders at the same time. Different companies have different requirements to be a courier, but with Postmates you can be a walker, a bicyclist, or a driver! Check it out here, click on the link below, and give it a shot if you’d like to make a few dollars and get some exercise at the same time. Plus, you could make money and save it up to invest in Prosper, and then your small earnings turn into more without doing more work! https://fleet.postmates.com/

Unfortunately, my computer battery is now telling me that I have to go…but stay tuned here for more info about my other two ideas as well…Ciao for now and happy reading!

Let’s Talk About…Random Tuesdays in NYC

I love discovering new, neat little places in NYC; my own corners of the world, if you think about it. I mean, in NYC it’s more like my own corner of the world…plus everyone else’s (but that’s not a bad thing). Finding my favorite places makes NYC feel homey and familiar in a city that is constantly growing and changing. A favorite view, a tranquil spot, good company, a fun atmosphere, it all amounts to something special, doesn’t it? What’s one of the first things that you imagine when you first think of NYC? Coffee makes the cut, in my opinion. It’s one of those many iconic things about the city; New Yorkers bustling around, running from here to there, cell phone in one hand and…coffee in the other. So where do these city dwellers go for that cup? Many head to Starbucks (myself included), but on the rare occasion that I’ve got free time I head to my favorite place. It’s comfy, it’s got a homey and inviting feel, the staff is super friendly, and I could go on and on. It’s a generally relaxing atmosphere, and it is where I’m spending a nice Tuesday afternoon before the madness of work tonight. Plus…the coffee is tasty and the seats are plentiful and comfy. I hope you are as lucky as me to find your favorite places, and I truly recommend that you try out any of the Manhattanville locations because, you know, all of the things I listed above!

Daily Prompt: Sleeve

Oh boy…I know I’m a bit late to the page today, but what can I say? I had to work! Now, on to the story brought on by today’s prompt. What in the world could there be to say about the word sleeve? It’s…not exactly that inspiring…so when I was thinking about it this morning I tried to envision all of the different things that sleeve could mean. There’s shirt sleeves, cd sleeves…tattoo sleeves…TATTOO SLEEVES! YES! That was the idea! Then that led me to this…my boyfriend loves his tattoos (they’re really meaningful and awesome…for the most part)…and that reminded me of the time that I spent with him this weekend. While at an event on Sunday where we were serving coffee, tea, cookies, etc., an elder gentleman was complaining that the coffee was way too hot (for the record, it was at a very nice temperature and there were no other complaints) and that the organization should focus more on getting some…sleeves…SLEEVES! YES! THAT’S WHAT I SHOULD WRITE ABOUT! COFFEE! So then BAM! Next thing I know, I’m enjoying a nice meal at the cutest restaurant in my neighborhood, sipping a latte (and also realizing how maybe I’m not that into lattes and I should get something else next time), drinking o.j., and eating the most amazing pancakes with berries and rum infused whipped cream I have ever had in my life. It’s seriously making me hungry right now. I had a wonderful lunch, and I realized that…I don’t need to write about the word sleeve, but to share my fun story from today. I mean, who doesn’t want to spend a few moments enjoying the sunshine while on a bar stool, drinking coffee and eating awesome food? I know I loved it, and I hope you’ve had a great day too!
